When did Safari become the new Internet Explorer?
Safari turned 20 years old yesterday. It went from being a cutting-edge browser to holding back several web standards today.
Apple has integrated Safari pretty deeply into its ecosystem so it is much slower to bring in new CSS and JavaScript features. This, in addition to updates being tied to the Operating System, means that no matter how quickly the rest of the browser market implements new features – it is meaningless without getting Safari on board, considering its large market share.
